(Editor’s Space)A Revenge of a Looser!

By Manuel T. Perez Jr
Once in my life, I had a dream! I aimed to reach the top, as what other people also wanted to do but we can really never scale the obstacles unless you’ve been through it. I am an activist at heart…that’s what people say about me. I give passion and colors in everything I do! That’s how ambitious I am. I hate to be dishonored and maltreated, and I always comment on things that I really hate most. I know how to give credit to those who have done something right. I have a good vision, not only for my self but also for others. I am in vivacity with my deeds! and I have a strong fighting spirit. Little did I know that some people hated me for that.
One day, everything changed my future, my plans, and my happiness! It all vanished and turned to dust! They took away everything from me, because of me , because of what I really am.
I have wanted to be successful in the field I chose and really most hunted but I failed! I did everything, knowing that it is right for me and it is really for me. However, who would have thought that what I have considered the best for myself will be worst for others. They took my blood! The only drop that penetrates my body and gives me life. People said that it is a typical sentiment of a person who is a looser….to revenge…to prove to those who caused my depression and sufferings that I am not a looser nor a quitter…I am now stronger and I do fight back. I may be as graceful as a butterfly but I sting as hard as a bee.
This is not the end of life! This is just the beginning of a battle! I will fight to my last breath! “Nobody can put a good man down! Not even a wise OLD MAN, a flying EAGLE or a SEA MONSTER can destroy my confidence! They have not realized what they have destroyed. It’s my life, my future and my heart! I do believe that through constant learning I can have the power of success, I am happy where I am now! Thank you to my new family, who accepts me for what I am though at first I felt I don’t belong to this family. To the stable who raised me to become a good fighter, thank you! To my dearest antagonists, thank you, because you have given me a very challenging role. Now look at me! I am a man ready to face the future battles. I have found a new home that gave me more opportunities than what I had from my former stable, whom I thought was my real family but I was wrong. As a revenge, this single drop of ink may hurt them and make them realize what they have done! I slept in silence for so many years, I actually hibernated! Now I am back with vengeance and ready to face all challenges. They will see what I am going to be in the future. Good luck to all of us, to my former stable, and to the other future fighters, good luck!! Keep on sailing and I hope that we will see each other again in the future. They will just go ahead of me but I will do my best to follow, if not surpass them. To all the neo fighters in my new home, strive further, fight fast, be firm and be the best among the best!. Make it for yourself and prove to others that we are one of a kind. We have the unique ability that no one has and could have. This is something for us to be proud of! To the JPA officers, Congratulations for a job well done, especially to its President John Michael Ojano, my best opponent in class but a good friend, and to Ms. Barbara Czarina Nuyte, the beautiful treasure of the JPA who is also a good friend of mine even for the short period that we’ve known each other. I remembered what my Best Friend told me when he left me here to move on to a new fight and future, “the true friendship does not emanates from the long stretch of time “. He was right! It doesn’t really matter how long you’ve been together; it’s the bonding, the good relationship and understanding with each other that matters.
Special thanks to Dr. Herbert B. Rosana for being such a good mentor and adviser of BAPS, and to all faculty members of our department, Prof Gina M. Oropesa, Prof. Engelbert Reolo and Prof. Lloyd Berdin. ☺

A.B. PEACE STUDIES SUMMER FIELD RESEARCH 2007 (Donsol, Sorsogon, Philippines) Theme: Social and Economic Impact Ecotourism in Donsol: Implication for

By: Jonathan Dayaon

Donsol, the Whale Shark Capital of the World, in its successful launched of the community based ecotourism project through the effort of the local Government Unit, Non-governmental organization and the Donsoleñous becomes the 2007 subject of Summer Field Research by the Department of Peace Studies. The study aimed to examine the impact of this ecotourism on the significant stakeholders and the community itself, and its implication for sustainability and human security. The study is an integral part of Peace Studies program since peace is perceived as ecological harmony. “That lays the foundation and strength to build a just and humane society as envisioned by the constitution”.
Along the coastal Barangays of the said Municipality, last May 7-11, 2007, the incoming senior class conducted the study under Research 2 subject of Dr. Herbert B. Rosana. Donsol is located at the province of Sorsogon & is very accessible with more or less one hour ride from the Bicol University Daraga Campus. The residents from the coastal Barangay were relying mostly their major income in fishing and with seasonal basis, they were benefited by the tourism industry. Under the principle of Ecotourism, the local community should be the one to implement the project and at the same time standing to be benefited from their activity. During the Butanding (Whale Shark) season, various fishermen converted themselves as a Tour Guide or they called themselves as Butanding Interaction Officer (BIO) as they undertake the Butanding Interaction Activity highly recommended by the Department of Tourism at the local Municipality of Donsol. There are these boat owners which basically used their boats for Butanding interaction even founded the Boat Operators Association (BOA). Aside from all of that, those great beneficiaries of the Ecoutorism Program are the Business Entrepreneurs, The Resort Owners and the Souvenir Vendors.
There are lots of efforts undertaken by the local Government Unit of Donsol, the Church and the World Wide Fund (WWF) a non- governmental groups in conserving and preserving the natural habitat all throughout the world. Although to some extent, opinions of stakeholders demand for more comprehensive plans and implementation of conservation projects. In summation, the pursuance of the conservation & the preservation of these rich natural resources of Donsol is one way of assuring the people for the elimination of treats with regard to the determination of environment and aquatic life. Many individuals and groups believe that the ecotourism brought a positive impact to their lives, and resulted to more infrastructure developmental projects and the elevated lifestyle Standards of people.
Because of the dedication and hard work done by each group, the Social and Economic Impact of the Ecotourism in Donsol were determined from the perspective of the different stakeholders through observations and interviews as well as experiencing of the researchers as a tourists during the Field Exposure. We also tried to generate policy implication that would help promote sustainability of ecotourism and human security of Donsoleñous, thereby improving the quality of life of the community & preserving the environment. As we, the researchers presented the finings, conclusion and recommendation before the energetic and equally hardworking Faculty of BAPS last May 24, 2007.
So, for us guys! Let’s keep it up…….and Good Luck Batch ’08…☺

Remembering the Disastrous Typhoon: LOOKING BACK IN THE PAST (the typhoon reming experience)

By: Ragsky

FEAR, AGONY and SORROW- these are how to describe the feelings of the people in last year’s disaster that came to us. November 30, 2006, the date that every one remembers. It is when the super typhoon Reming brought havoc to the province of Albay. The typhoon packs a 210-230kph on wind velocity and a heavy rainfall that is 22mm per hour which cause a wide range of destruction like landslide, mudflow and floods. Now let us look back at how the typhoon Reming change the life and of the people in Albay.
As early as 7:00 am, the beautiful skies turn dark as black, the province is as silent as a dead desert, only the sound of hauling winds may be heard, which is getting stronger by minute, as if giving a warning that a strong storm is approaching. At about 9:00 am, all hell breaks lose, strong winds pummel the province, heavy rains pour that causes mudflow from the Volcano that come crushing down, destroying everything in its path. Many are left with no shelter, without food and water, hundreds died and thousands injured. Infrastructures like office buildings, malls, roads, bridges and houses were destroyed, leaving Albay helpless and paralyzed. The government was alarmed by the situation. They had difficulties settling the problems and supporting the families who were victims of the calamity. According to the government, 80% of the populations were affected. They immediately sought help from the private and non-government organizations. As a result, Relief operations and medical missions were offered.
Being a responsible person, I accepted the challenge of becoming one of the volunteers in relief operations of Redemptorist Legazpi. At first, I was shy because there were so many volunteers, but as time goes by, my shyness was gone because it’s easy for me to make friends with them. The experience was really fun and uplifting; we packed sacks of rice, dozens of dried fish, canned goods, noodles and clothing.

Furthermore, I was chosen by the organization to go to the island of Rapu-Rapu as one of the volunteers to give relief goods. When I was about to go there, I felt excited and at the same time, I was curious of the place and the people that I’m going to meet there. As I stepped on the island I was surprised by the panoramic and attractive view that will surely catch attention. I discovered later on that those are just mere illusions of the island…eight out of ten families are suffering from poverty. Lack of education and some are jobless. For them to have better life, they depend on fishing and farming as their main source of income. As I gave relief goods to the people there, I felt a sense of fulfillment in my life. Their way of saying thank you and smiling back at me makes my heart go fonder. One of the people there told me when we are about to go home that “Iho salamat sa tulong ninyo, malaking bagay na ito sa amin. Ang mga katulad ninyo ay talagang pinagpala ng diyos”, those words gave me strength, all my hardships were gone and it made me realized that helping others can make a difference in this world just like golden rule “do unto others as what others want to do unto you” . We are still lucky and we must appreciate the common things around us. Those are the things that I’ve learned from what I had experienced. I encourage the people to join activities and to volunteer in any event to help people who are in need. Those experiences will stay in my memory and it will remain until my last breath is taken…☺

NO ID, NO UNIFORM, NO ENTRY

By:Joemel Naz

The student in every school, college/University should always wear proper uniform as a part of identification and respect for their school. Let us take a look at the students of BAPS. “Tanong ko lang may PEACE pa ba?” Sometimes the students of said course do not wear their uniforms and ID’s. Several reasons were: they don’t want their uniform to look, because they want to keep it newer; or “pang porma lang”. They can wear civilian clothes during the wash day which was scheduled every Friday, but the freshmen, wear their school uniform because it is required and it should be observed by the students, be it rainy day or sunny day. My suggestion is, all year levels should have a penalty for the students who do not follow the school regulations. To have Peace, start at the proper wearing of uniform, make it presentable and wear it rain or shine because we are the peacemaker . Our college should impose a sanction for those students who do not properly wear their uniform. I also suggest that they should start this imposition to the BAPS Department. Pwede kaya yon?

The “Sorry” of Grades “Not Once but Twice”

by: By:Joemel Naz

The chance is already there, but why can’t you achieve it? Just because of poverty? Lack of time or influence? Many times that the challenges and experience were very sophisticated. Competition!, the first agreement and expectation of the school, but how can the determined students compete with their cheater classmates? (Sorry ka na lang…Hahaha) But naturally the grades of the student cheaters are higher than the grades of determined students (How sad naman). These are the realities of being a student and characterized as wise (talaga?). Every time you take a test, do you feel confident?, and ready to know the result right after the exam? How would you become a strong student? We know that the best reviewing of the lesson is after the test “Deal or No Deal”. Sometimes a terror teacher would be one just because he or she wants the students to learn and gain knowledge, but what happens “Marhay pa mag-mall kita Padi!!! This attitude led to the downfall and failing of grades. This caused by letter “O” “Ogak”/laziness.
Now the meaning of “STUDY” for them is “Sobrang Tanglay Uding Day Yadi”, see? Remember the “Regret” and “KARMA” is in at last not once but twice.☺

SERVICE FOR PEACE ORIENTATION

By: Jose Romulo Federico

This is the period where all students shall step-up to seriousness. The period when each one of us is experiencing a lot of changes, where every one wants to be independent. Independence for ourselves and for our studies.
When I left behind the challenging reality of my Elementary and High School life, I already had a vision for myself as I enter the College life but I have observed a new world—new ways or lifestyles in schooling particularly among the students now, they use their time going to “MALLS” if not in GAISANO, in LCC. I pity my fellow students who would rather waste their time at the “MALL” than to spend their precious time in school.
It only made me think and realize my future and the next generation. Don’t pretend that you are a genius just because you are a scholar of Bicol University.
Don’t waste your time to useless things because “Time is Gold”. The Malls can measure your money but knowledge is a treasure that no one can measure. How meaningful life do you have now? You are punching the wall of rocks.
Be inspired by those who love schooling, those who have confidence and faith to themselves and be inspired by those who persevere and those who are determined to succeed.
Malls will just be there —Life will not. Start gaining knowledge from studies that would help us to be better students and better persons because we are now in the modern world.
Service for Peace in the Philippines, an independent and not-for-profit organization has visited the Bicol University for the orientation of their organization held in Arcilla Hall of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy last October 10, 2007. Dr. Herbert B. Rosana, the faculty members and the students of the Peace Studies Department gladly participated in the program.
In the orientation, SFP have shown videos and pictures to give the participants a snapshot about their past actions. They also given Peace Studies Department activities and introduced their 3 key Programs such as Leadership through Service (Service Work Adventure Training-SWAT), Muslim-Christian Cooperation (MCC), and Support and Help Indigenous People.
They also introduced the SFP and the Un 8 Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015 that respond to the world’s main development challenges.
SFP and UN 8MDG’s
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environment sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Because of the same principle with SFP programs, the Peace Studies Department became interested to cooperate and be partners with the Service for Peace in their future activities.
After the orientation, Dr. Herber B. Rosana invited the Service for Peace in the Philippines for the coming Peace Forum and Peace Day.

The Odds at the Back of heavy Rain

By: Joemel Naz

November 19, 2007 at the exactly 6;00 A.M when the water started to flow in bridges in the different places of Albay and one of the said bridges collapsed was the bridge at Kilikaw, Daraga Albay cause of 21 hours falling heavy rains and will cause of huge traffic. It was announced by the Radio broad caster, Pio Fernandez at DZGB Station at exactly 7:00 A.M…He announced that the classes at Bicol University in all levels and other schools were suspended. In Bicol University, Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya the president, the first who announced that all levels in BU was suspended, even in Aquinas University, Divine Word College, St. Agnes and other schools here in Albay.
The tragedy at the back of heavy rains was the call of Nature so that we will realize and think well that we need to plant more trees to prevent erosions, floods and this heavy rain was now determined as a typhoon LANDO.
Now, the safety is not on the Nature but it is our hand and remember that we are near at the Pacific Ocean so we need more faith to God and rely our future to Nature. Help save mother earth!

Biyaya

Believe me

All my life I’ve waited
For love to come and stay
And now that I have found you
You must no slip away
I know it’s hard to believe
The words you’ve heard before
But my only love, you must trust me
Just once more

The last word I say

It was bad for me, but good for you
Now nothing neither of us can say nor do
I can never change the way you feel
Sometimes love just slip away

Just one thing before you goes
Just one thing that you’ve got to know
No one girl had ever hurt me like this
And I want you to know that I love you
I will live alone and hide myself behind the tears
But still I love you forever and ever.

I’m dreaming Again

I thought you are here with me tonight
Holding hands together
I thought you are by my side
Sharing our love together
And when you smile to me
My hear is very happy
But when I kiss your lips you vanished
I can’t believe that it was just a dream.
forever

Sunrise, Sunrise,
How long?
Sunset, Sunset
FOREVER?

The loving,
Then breaking,
And hoping,
FOREVER?

What prayer I’ll pray?
How long I’ll hold on?
Till when I’ll wait?
FOREVER?

You may go back,
You may not.
Whatever…
But as long as thy live,

I’LL LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!

INTACT SIX

This article is written in
Loving memory of our dearest
Friend...
Some of the word/s and phrases in this article
was adopted from the
song “My Immortal” by Evanescence
The art of leaving sometimes demands your heart to deal with it. Well it’s not you…..Whose going to make a fall, it is for the moment to offer and show. The act of falling is a part of your circumstances which took the rule. Perhaps, it’s your very own way to escape. Yes, to escape in this crazy world because you are SO TIRED OF BEING there. In this sense, it doesn’t mean that you want it to happen, but instead, it is your MUST, and that sometimes you just have to do….. No matter how it hurts.
Just like a fall of a leaf by the roots burning its soul. No one can help it; well basically everyone must take the flow. In times of uncertainty, who knows where to find strength to hold on and which to find reason not to quit? I guess it’s a WOUND that WON’T SEEM TO HEAL that the PAIN IS JUST TOO REAL…
Butterfly kissed a beautiful flower as the sun smiles around. How I miss those things… It really means a lot for me. Exactly four and a half years since we become close friend. Almost every day we’ve been together. We both witness the steps of adjustments for every environment that we had. Nevertheless we find companion from each others hand. Together we began to open our dreams to our classmate and make friends until we been used to acquaint comfortably with them. For a short while that we tried to soar and fly. Now it was you who left me. For the moment that we’ve been together, you had so much to be remembered and so much lessons to be learned. How I wish you are still alive to make you feel how much I valued our friendship. We were both suppressed by our childish fears and we both seen our growing. I’d still remember our usual day that always starts with a simple “hi!” and it ends by saying “Goodbye!” We’ve shared our happiness, hard times and our ups and downs. We speak our thoughts and express our emotions and talk about anything under the sun. It’s how we took the road and sailed our oceans. Certainly you could be that someone who knows me inside & out. For it just happens that I know what makes you happy and perhaps you also knew mine. At times I may not be enough for you, well I am sorry. Sorry for all the bad things I’ve done. And thank you for all the understanding (even I know sometimes you were the only one who does it for me). For all the support and acceptance thanks a lot. It doesn’t all ends here because YOUR PRESENCE STILL LINGERS HERE in my heart. ..Something I will never forget.
For our circle that uses to call ourselves “ILITE”, which made a vocabulary of our own, a new set of language that we shared to laugh about. We might see ourselves laughing and teasing around, I know deep inside us we are melting. We find strength from each others arm and proud to be “Intact Six” in times of trouble. Trying to recall all things that only our group understands, like the way we had fun at the expense of our own way to fight our sorrows and pain. Well, all sort of sadness were left unspoken. The only truth now is that one piece of the puzzle will never be intact again. I appreciate the effort you guys are giving, trying to fill the emptiness we felt. We are hoping that this puzzle of our friendship will continue growing.
Because someday when we CRY, I know she will WIPE AWAY ALL OF OUR TEARS and in times when we SCREAM hope she will FIGHT AWAY ALL OF OUR FEARS…
I knew it long before I enter this university and now as I am about to take the flight, I will prove myself not profound. At the expense of getting into it is such a different story. For this entire thing that may take its space on earth, those which we never expect to happen just suddenly knock our doors.
It seems so overused but it’s true that the worth of a person will come as they gone through. Perhaps one should expect the unexpected…And play the game right …and not to tell yourself that your life was a big Mess –jen_07■

OFF LIMITS

Tan_777@yahoo.com
Shut up!...Here we go again… Hey guys, Guess what?
Wearing their BEST, ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you, The JUNIOR PEACE’IANS. The Red carpet entourage of the 1st year, Once in a Blue moon get up of the 2nd year, 3rd years of the third year black parade and hands up for the SILVER toes of the 4th years.
The event last July 11, 2007 held at the Arcilla Hall of Bicol University College of Social Sciences and Philosophy made a way for the Peace Studies Department to officially welcome the freshmen. Through the effort of the Junior Peace Advocate Officers, the program for the said event has been furnished and well accomplished.
It was a night of great excitement and fun for the student and faculty members of ABPS. Dr. Herbert B. Rosana, the department chair, gave a wonderful insights about the course and delivered an inspirational message for the student especially the 1st year BAPS. The other faculty members of the department, Prof. Lloyd V. Berdin, Prof. Engelbert B. Reolo and Prof. Gina M. Oropesa also gave a fruitful, very toughing and emotional messages for the students and again with neophytes as especial mention. In the heart of the event were cute presentations of parlor games for enthusiasts, jolly, freak and very cool Peace Advocates.
Acquaintance Party’07 was divided into three parts. The first part was a Holy Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Edgar Barias. The second part was a program hosted by Ms. Rachel Faelyn Calamucha and Mr. Manuel T. Perez Jr. (Both 4th year students). The said program was formally opened by His Excellence, JPA President Mr. John Michael Ojano. This very energetic young man demands cooperation and participation, from among the delegates of all year levels. He particularly assured the audience that the event will come across the universe to intensely rock their world on the last and third part of the program.
Everything was all right as when the beat of sounds begun to break our eardrums. Everybody stood up, not to recite but Hey!, to showcase their talent in Body Language. Hahaha…And if you missed that gig, well, you have wasted your chance to see the break of DAWN. It’s nice to have it all guys! Mwaahh—tan!

Lack of foundation….. The Builder and the owner? Sad isn’t it? Who to blame?

From the highest building to the lowest building, from the house to a simple nipa hut, it cannot be use if the foundation is not strong. Who would be a crazy person to stay to building which in any moment it may collapse and may kill you…? Not even a cat or a dog could stay to that…
I had compared this simple example to a person who lacks basic education. He may not be that competent to be employed in a certain company or an institution because of this lack of education he may fall as a beggar, a criminal, a vagrant or a simple “tambay” no future, no present and even a dream for himself. It is a very sad story because it is the responsibility of the state or the government to give such basic education, an education is a right and not a privileged…. Sad isn’t it!
But what if you have that access to this basic education, you may have even entered college and you have even graduated, but you may not be that competent or even not that competitive, who would you blame, is it you that is incompetent or the person who thought you to be one? Or even a person who tought you also questions your competence, can he? or the question may redound on him…. Sad isn’t it? Your idol, your mentor questions if you are competent…. Very sad isn’t it?

Let us go back to the building, who would you blame of the lack of foundation, is it the person who is using it or the person that created and build the said building… who is now the incompetent? It will always redound to the person who build and created the said building! Sad isn’t it?

But someday this building will fall down and may kill somebody. But before the building collapse the owner may do something to make it stronger even the first foundation is weak, from that weakness a strong building may rise, because the mistake from the first building created will not be repeated, it will stand even twice as strong as the previous one…. Because the owner of the future done something to prevent the fall down, he hired a new builder! Can you say that it is sad?

The Boy From the FrontPage

Peace Studies’ 6th Regional Peace Forum Started with a touch!
06 Dec. 2007- the 6th Regional Peace Forum was finally realized after it was postponed in its first schedule that was supposed to be last November 22, 2007, due to the formation of typhoon Mina.
The change in schedule of such forum, also changes its venue due to unavailability of the first prospect holding place. Instead of B.U amphitheater, it was brought to South Ocean Villa, which was a better and more comfortable place for the said activity.
Anyway, I had better news than describing how the venue works with the activity. The program started at 1:30 in the afternoon and it was cold inside the hall and participants seem to be sleepy because of the time and atmosphere, but it was a different story when B.U President, Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya gave her heartwarming welcome address. She began her message with the story of the boy in a FRONT PAGE OF a NEWSPAPER who was wearing an all white clothes and lying on his mother’s arms, and that 18 year old boy was a massacre survivor in the U.S when he was just about 4 years old. The crime was done in front of his very young and innocent eyes.” Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya narrated. That boy then migrated here in the Philippines after the incident happened. And when the boy reaches his age of 18, he was published in the daily newspaper INQUIRER. He was the boy that Dr. Lauraya was telling about, the boy who committed suicide who was lying in his mother’s arms after killing his 12 other classmates who wears all white clothes when he died. That was the effect of violence in an eye of a young innocent child
That message of the president touches the heart of the participants and guests on the said venue, even her self seems to be affected by her delivered message. On her torment eyes during her welcome address. Maybe it is not how she delivers her speech, because we all know how excellent Madam President is when it comes to Public Speaking, but we can see the moral lesson of that real story of her that jives with the theme of the 6th Regional Peace Forum which is Perspective on Children Affected by Armed Conflict.
Dr. Lauraya also tells Dr.Rosemarie Ty Frias, our beloved DEAN and Dr. Herbert B. Rosana, Chairman of the Peace Studies Department, that the students must feel their life in the University’s as one of the Universities Responsibilities. She also thanks the Peace Odyssey for being one instrument for realizing the 6th Regional Peace Forum.

SOCCER GRADUATION

By: Shanz Ballares

“It’s been a big part of our college life to be in sports.—to be in CSSP SOCCER TEAM” says graduating sports minded students who once became the University Champions.
It was School Year 2006-2007 when soccer women division was included in categories for BU Olympics. It is also the same S.Y when CSSP SOCCER TEAM women division became the University Champion. After having no practice at all, the self and team confidence, blessed by the sacred short team prayer traditionally led by the team prayer master “Mimay”, gives the good luck and helps the team won in every game.
Our first game was CSSP vs. IPESR. It’s been very hard game to won since IPESR majors in field of sports. But luckily after the goal to goal facing, the score of 1 vs. 0 favors the CSSP to won. “The feeling is just like falling from the plane without any parachute and yet we found ourselves alive”, Shanz says, the team keeper. The challenges continue, the next team opponent was C.E and… “WOW”!!! It is surprising that winning the game is even harder than the first one. “This was the game that we earned cramps, bruises, tamblings, hematoma and severe body pain as product of this sport”, team captain Guades reveals. The CSSP got 1 point and C.E got 0. It gives the team its 2nd win. Afterwards, third opponent came. It our neighbor college, the CBEM. This was the game that player slightly relax and rest themselves from pressure.
The score of 6 vs. 2 in favor of CSSP team places them in position of WAITING for the CHAMPIONSHIP game. The last but not the least game arrives, the championship. And the lucky team that faced them was their 1st opponent, the IPESR Delegates. “When we entered the court and the game begun. Its like a magic that it heals all the pains”, Telai said. Both teams did there best, but there must be only one champion, and it has been our team. “The CSSP”!! The score have been 1 vs. 0 in favor of CSSP.
It’s the happy story of becoming the champion. But as old man says, Life is like a wheel, now we may on top, but tomorrow may not. Hehehe… here’s the next story.
The next BU Olympic had come. Its now 2007-2008. The same year of team’s 8 members upcoming graduation, was also the year of the team’s 1st painful experience of loosing. Our team actually successfully won its first and second games. The games of CSSP vs. CENG and CSSP vs. C.E. It was the third game and supposedly the chance for the team to be again place in WAITING for CHAMPIONSHIP game when our team was unluckily lost in the hand of Polangui Campus. Ouch…Why??? Let’s flash back…ZOOMM…(Continued to page 11)
It was an intrams victory ball in CSSP. The senior team won, us, and we happily posed in front of the stage for pictorials. When one of our best forward players “Jho” accidentally fall from the stage and she got a hand fracture and ankle joint dislocation. That injury made her unable to play during BU Olympics. This was a great loss in our team and one big factor for loosing. This just shows the importance of everyone in the team.
That’s the sad story. “Anyway, we will not be graduating as a looser. Our team earned a very good jamming and friendship that keeps us a happy team and makes us always feel champion” said Barbs.
Anyway, don’t you know that 7 in CSSP SOCCER TEAM were BAPS? They’re Barbara Czarina Nuyte (defender), Maureen Eva Vera (defender), Rommelie Guiriba (defender), Otelia Olimpo (defender), Mary Anne Guades (forward) and yours truly, Shahani Ballares (goal keeper). We maybe a butterfly but we stings like a bee, we are champions!

It was a celebration of BU Foundation on 2007, students have their own fields of delegation in competitions, representing their colleges. Speaking of colleges delegation three students from BAPS department represent the CSSP in Taekwondo sports competition. One representative in flyweight male division, (Ken) one in finweigth female division, (Shan) and one in bunt hum female division (Mimi).

We are all amateurs in this sport and practiced only for one week in Arcilla Hall. Before the fight starts, we are all in mixed emotions of excitement and nervous especially when we discovered our opponents that were regional and national players.

The first fight in us was Ken; his opponent was from IPESR and played in SQUAA and regional Taekwondo competition. Ken got 1 score while his opponent got 3. Then here I come to be the next to fight. I vs the black belt and National player delegate of BUCAF. Having a score of 4 vs 6 favoring my opponent was not that painful but when Mimi still lost in the hand of the delegate of BUPC who was also a national player in a score of 3 vs 7, thinking that all of us failed to win the game was a little bit frustrating. We obviously saw the reason of our defeat as lack of lessons and training in it as preparation. So we thought of a solution so that our next delegate won’t suffer the same.

Here now comes the conceive idea to organize a Taekwondo club in CSSP but the idea, that it would be better if the students would learn not only Taekwondo but also other field of Martial Arts such as Arnis and Aikido was brilliant, and so we did.

“Learning many is better learning.” Isn’t it? So instead of Taekwondo club, the CSSP Martial Arts Association would rise, and the founder would be BAPS students. I, as founder, and Ken, as co-founder, made the resolution of proposal in it, and after passing the eyes of our three advisers whom were, Prof. Lloyd Berdin, Prof. Noel Rafer, and Prof. Ruby Ann Ayo, it was passed at the office of the Dean and finally it was approved last Nov. 8 2007.

CSSP Martial Arts Association looked for a high Quality Instructor. After screening seven Pages resume, the CSSP Martial Arts Association’s advisers and founders finally Hired Mr. Jowe Cutamora as the association’s chief instructor. Actually, the association is now in the enrollment process. As soon as 30 enrollees gathered, the operation of that said association would start. So if you are interested to enroll, you can enroll ASAP, look for Prof Berdin and or Shahani Ballares in BAPS Department and ENROLL!

(Editorial )Children Caught In Armed Conflict

Children are born in this world with a need of care by their parents specially their mother. Children are the weakest among the human being, before and after they have been born, in the society, in the community and to the world as a whole. Too many children suffer because of lack of support from their parents or the community and even the government. Malnutrition in Somalia and other countries in Africa, Philippines and any other Asian nations affect these children. According to the Probe Team, in the topic Victor aired last January 2, 2008 at around 11pm at ABS- CBN, Cheche Lazaro, the host had commented that the last time that the government recognized the children and given a opportunity to have better life was at the time of the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos when he directed that all the barangay should put up a day care center, and this is the first and last time that the government gives support to the needs of the children. This is how these children are neglected and last to be prioritized by the government until now….
Today most problems and issues in the society are the Children affected by Armed Conflict. Because of the non-stop civil war and conflict between the government and the state. Because of this many children was put into prejudice that they are neglected and even put into this unacceptable situation. Some children, as part of their growing up have already become a witness to the fight of their parents some have seen their parents holding gun and even the sounds of fighting become a natural phenomena to them. That in this situation the children are greatly affected, emotionally, mentally and even socially, there are several studies that already been conducted by several scholars and researchers to the effect of this situation to the children many of which can be found in Las Navas, in Samar and mostly in Muslim Mindanao and also the part of Bicol Region.
All of us are born with human rights even if you these children that are not yet born but already conceived already acquired these rights. This right needs to be exercise equally among the people, regardless of their economic standing or position in life. A rich persons’ right should not be more than those of the poor people, and what is applied and respected right that is exercise by the old person should also respect the right of the younger one…. Rights are not privilege but it is applied have to all ages. But these rights sometimes are not respected and applied to these young children, they are neglected, put into side and even abuse….
There are so many children suffer because they are not respected by these people, they tend to leave everything in the will of these people…. War is the most devastating act of human being; they will destroy everything, life, property and even the person’s dignity. It will not respect even those innocent children, worse of all they will use them….
Act now and stop War. Let us promote Peace for the betterment of our children
